BEIJING, March 2 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Monday that the Strait of Hormuz and its surrounding waters are important international trade routes for transporting goods and energy, and called on relevant parties to immediately cease military operations to prevent further escalation of tensions.

Mao Ning made the statement at a daily departmental press conference, responding to a question about the military strikes on Iran carried out jointly by the United States and Israel.

Earlier, Iranian media reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) closed the Strait of Hormuz to shipping, declaring the vital oil and gas transport artery unsafe due to attacks by the US and Israel. -0-
