Moscow, March 2 (Xinhua) — Since September 1, 2025, more than 200 individuals involved in organizing illegal communication channels have been detained in 43 Russian regions, the press service of the Federal Security Service (FSB) reported on Monday.
These communication channels were used to lure Russians into sabotage and terrorist activities, mass disseminate false terrorist threats, and commit remote fraud. Over 100 illegal channels were shut down, and over 220 SIM boxes, as well as over 54,000 SIM cards and SIM chips used in criminal activities, were seized.
The detainees received monetary compensation from their foreign handlers, as confirmed by correspondence stored on the seized communication devices. Criminal cases have been opened and are being investigated under several articles of the Russian Criminal Code, which entered into force on September 1, 2025, and carry penalties of up to six years in prison, as well as under the article on fraud.
