Beijing, March 1 (Xinhua) — China firmly opposes and strongly condemns the attack on and assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Sunday.
The Chinese diplomat made the statement while commenting at the request of journalists on the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as a result of military strikes on Tehran carried out by the United States and Israel on Saturday.
The attack on and assassination of Iran's supreme leader is a gross violation of Iran's sovereignty and security, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman noted, noting that it violates the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, as well as the basic norms of international relations.
The official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry added that China calls for an immediate end to military operations, preventing further escalation of the tense situation, and jointly maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East and throughout the world. –0–
