Islamabad, March 1 (Xinhua) — At least nine people were killed and more than 12 others were injured on Sunday in clashes between angry protesters and security forces near the US Consulate in Karachi, Sindh Province, southern Pakistan, rescue officials said.

Clashes broke out when demonstrators attempted to enter the building, prompting security forces to respond, local emergency service 1122 reported.

The injured were taken to nearby hospitals, Hassan Ul Hasib, a spokesman for the 1122 rescue service in Sindh, told Xinhua. Many of them are in critical condition.
