Beijing, February 27 (Xinhua) — US and Ukrainian talks concluded in Geneva on Thursday. Media reports said the discussions lasted approximately four hours.
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) Rustem Umerov reported that the parties focused on the economic bloc and long-term mechanisms for supporting the country during the talks. According to him, the negotiators worked in two formats: one with the American side, and another with the United States and Switzerland.
"Together with the government's economic team, in particular [Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture/] Oleksiy Sobolev, and our American partners, we have thoroughly worked on a document on Ukraine's restoration," R. Umerov wrote on Telegram, adding that the next round is being prepared, with the parties working on "finalizing security parameters, economic decisions, and agreed-upon positions."
The goal is to make the next trilateral meeting involving the US and Russia “as substantive as possible,” he added.
In addition to R. Umerov, the Ukrainian delegation included David Arakhamia, head of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction, A. Sobolev, and his deputy, Daria Marchak. The American side was represented by Special Presidential Envoy Steven Witkoff and Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
According to Russian media, on the same day, February 26, Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian President's Special Representative for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), was also in Geneva for talks with the United States "on his own terms." According to TASS, two hours later, Dmitriev left the Four Seasons Hotel in Geneva, where the bilateral talks between the United States and Ukraine were taking place, but he declined to comment on the outcome of the talks with US representatives.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that on the night of February 26, in response to Ukrainian strikes on civilian infrastructure facilities located on Russian territory, the Russian army launched a massive strike with long-range air- and ground-based high-precision weapons and attack UAVs against Ukrainian military-industrial complex enterprises, energy infrastructure facilities used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and military airfields. –0–
