Baghdad, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) — Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi stressed in a telephone conversation on Friday that negotiations are the most acceptable way to resolve outstanding issues amid heightened tensions in the Middle East.
According to a statement from the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, A. Araghchi informed F. Hussein about the progress of the negotiations between Iran and the United States in Geneva, including the progress achieved and the schedule of upcoming technical-level meetings.
According to the Foreign Ministry, F. Hussein noted the importance of continuing dialogue, while both ministers emphasized the need to prevent the risk of escalation and war in the region and to continue to maintain regional security and stability.
Tensions in the region remain high amid the United States' growing military presence near Iran. Last month, Iraq declared its opposition to the use of its territory or airspace as a staging ground for attacks on other countries.
