Cairo, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) — Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atty and U.S. Special Presidential Envoy Steven Witkoff discussed the current situation surrounding the proximity talks between the United States and Iran in a telephone conversation on Friday.
According to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, B. Abdel Aty confirmed Cairo's support for diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the remaining problems through negotiations.
He stressed Egypt's commitment to continuing to pursue the path of negotiations and preventing escalation in the region, noting the importance of reaching compromises that meet the interests of all parties.
The statement followed the third round of indirect US-Iranian talks held in Geneva on Thursday, which Oman, the mediator, described as marked by "significant progress." However, the current meeting ended without any agreement, as fundamental issues remained unresolved.
