Moscow, February 26 (Xinhua) — Japan should support genuine peace efforts by other countries, in particular by sending a message to Kyiv that terrorism is unacceptable, if it truly wants to promote a settlement in Ukraine. This was stated by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova on Thursday.

"If Japan truly wants to contribute to a resolution of the Ukrainian conflict, rather than adding fuel to the fire, it should first and foremost support other countries' genuine efforts to achieve peace. And perhaps use its achievements and its capabilities to send a clear signal to the Zelenskyy regime about the importance of demonstrating reasonableness and constructiveness in the negotiations," Zakharova pointed out.

In her opinion, Tokyo could send a signal to Kyiv that “for Japan, for official Tokyo, the Kyiv regime’s commission of terrorist attacks against civilians is unacceptable.”

"We have repeatedly stated, and have been supported by the global majority, that resolving the Ukrainian crisis requires addressing its root causes," the Russian Foreign Ministry's official spokesperson emphasized.

According to M. Zakharova, “Tokyo’s persistent desire to link the state of affairs in Ukraine with security in East Asia, which has nothing to do with that country, is not only illogical, but also provocative.” –0–
