St. Petersburg, February 26 (Xinhua) — The Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia has detained two Russian citizens who were planning to commit a terrorist attack using an improvised explosive device against a high-ranking member of the Russian Ministry of Defense. The FSB press service reported this on Thursday.
The FSB established that the perpetrators corresponded with a representative of the Ukrainian intelligence services and indicated their readiness to commit a terrorist attack. On instructions from their handler, they removed an improvised explosive device from a hiding place and planted it under a serviceman's vehicle.
The explosive device was discovered and defused. The detainees have confessed, and a criminal investigation is underway.
