BEIJING, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) — The 21st session of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) concluded in Beijing on Thursday.
At the final session, legislators voted to dismiss Wang Xiangxi from her post as Minister of Emergency Management. Chinese President Xi Jinping signed a corresponding decree.
NPC Standing Committee Chairman Zhao Leji presided over the final meeting, which also approved the report on the powers of individual NPC deputies and decisions on personnel issues.
Deputies approved the report on the work of the NPC Standing Committee in principle. At a meeting of the chairman and vice-chairmen of the 14th NPC Standing Committee, it was proposed to instruct Zhao Leji to deliver this report at the upcoming fourth session of the 14th NPC.
Legislators adopted the draft agenda and the draft list of members of the presidium and the head of the secretariat of the 4th session of the 14th NPC, and also approved the decision to submit the relevant drafts for consideration at the preparatory meeting of the session.
In addition, a list of delegates to the session with the right to an advisory vote was approved.
Speaking at the closing session, Zhao Leji announced that the upcoming annual session of the NPC would review and approve the main provisions of China's 15th Five-Year Development Plan. Also scheduled to be reviewed are drafts of the Environmental Code, the Law on Promoting National Unity and Progress, and the Law on National Development Planning.
Zhao Leji called on the NPC Standing Committee to focus on the central tasks of the Party and the state and, together with the entire deputies, fulfill their duties in accordance with the law, demonstrating a heightened sense of responsibility and mission.
He also called on the NPC Standing Committee to carefully listen to and take into account the opinions and suggestions of deputies on the work of the standing committee, conscientiously accept oversight, and ensure that the Fourth Session of the 14th NPC is held in a disciplined, pragmatic, and highly effective manner.
Before the closing session, Zhao Leji chaired a meeting of the chairman and vice-chairmen of the 14th NPC Standing Committee, and after the closing session, he presided over the 21st thematic lecture organized for deputies. –0–
