BEIJING, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) — Senior Chinese officials have called for increased efforts to ensure industrial safety and prevent forest and grassland fires.

As emphasized at the all-China videoconference on industrial safety and forest and steppe fire prevention and suppression held Thursday, fire safety must be prioritized in crowded areas, high-rise buildings, and self-constructed structures used for commercial purposes. Participants also called for comprehensive inspections in key industries to identify and address any hidden risks and curb illegal activity.

Participants emphasized the paramount importance of strengthening security measures in the transportation sector. Furthermore, they emphasized the need to control the use of fireworks to ensure the safety of people and property, especially during the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year, the traditional Chinese Lunar New Year) holiday.

The meeting participants emphasized the importance of strengthening monitoring and early warning systems for forest and steppe fires, and called for stricter control over fire sources and the elimination of fire risks.

Zhang Guoqing, a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, addressed the meeting. The event was chaired by Wang Xiaohong, a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and a member of the State Council of the People's Republic of China.
