Rio de Janeiro, February 24 (Xinhua) — The death toll from torrential rains in the southeastern Brazilian state of Minas Gerais has risen to 30, with 39 people still missing, local authorities said on Tuesday.

Heavy rain that began Monday afternoon triggered landslides, overflowed city rivers and felled trees, damaging buildings and leaving thousands of people homeless, the local fire department said.
