Cairo, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) — Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atty held a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday to discuss regional developments, particularly the situation in Iran.
B. Abdel Aty stressed the importance of de-escalating and containing growing tensions in the region, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
He also spoke about Cairo's efforts to create conditions for the resumption of negotiations between the US and Iran, noting the desire to achieve a peaceful settlement based on consensus that can prevent further escalation of the situation.
On Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran was committed to reaching a "fair and balanced" agreement with the United States, noting that the two countries have a "historic opportunity to reach an unprecedented agreement." –0–
