BEIJING, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) — China's tourism sector saw strong growth during the nationwide Spring Festival (Chinese Lunar New Year) holiday, with tourist arrivals and spending hitting record highs.

China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism said Tuesday that 596 million domestic tourist trips were made during the nine-day holiday that began on February 15 and ended on February 23, 95 million more than during the eight-day Spring Festival holiday in 2025.

Domestic tourism expenditure totaled 803.5 billion yuan (about 115.8 billion U.S. dollars), up 126.5 billion yuan from last year.

The agency's statistics indicate that snow and ice tourism and winter trips to warmer regions continue to generate increased interest: during the current holidays, tourists traveled longer distances and for longer periods.

The ministry noted that the popularity of Spring Festival celebrations in China is also growing among foreign tourists. –0–
