Kabul, February 22 (Xinhua) — At least nine people were killed and 35 others injured when a passenger bus overturned due to reckless driving in Badghis province in western Afghanistan on Sunday, local police said.

The accident occurred in the Sabzak district along the highway that links the provincial capital of Qala-i-Naw with the western province of Herat, Badghis provincial police spokesman Sadikullah Sadeqi said.

According to him, nine passengers, including women and children, died at the scene. Police and local residents transported 35 injured people to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Road accidents caused by careless driving on busy roads and a lack of road signs on dilapidated highways are a major cause of death in Afghanistan.
