BEIJING, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) — China on Friday activated a Level 4 emergency response mechanism due to hazardous meteorological phenomena in several regions of the country.
Strong winds and sandstorms are expected in several northern regions from Friday to Sunday, the China Meteorological Administration said, issuing a Level 4 emergency response mechanism on Friday for strong winds and sandstorms.
On Friday, China's National Meteorological Center (NMC) issued a yellow alert for strong winds and sandstorms, and a blue alert for a cold wave.
According to the National Meteorological Center, strong winds are expected in areas such as the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Gansu Province, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Qinghai Province, Shaanxi Province, as well as in northern and northeastern China and the Shandong Peninsula.
Due to strong winds, sand and dust whirlwinds are likely to be observed in the above-mentioned regions and in northern Henan Province, and sandstorms or severe sandstorms are likely to occur in some areas.
As a reminder, China has a four-tier weather warning system, with red representing the highest level of danger, followed by orange, yellow, and blue. China also has a four-tier emergency response system, with level one being the most severe.
