WUHAN, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) — Twelve people were killed in an explosion at a fireworks shop in central China's Hubei Province, local authorities said.

An explosion occurred around 2:00 PM Wednesday in Zhengji Township, Xiangyang City, Xiangyang Province. The resulting fire covered approximately 50 square meters. Rescuers were dispatched to the scene. The fire was extinguished by 3:30 PM.

The bodies of 12 victims were found at the scene. The cause of the tragedy is being determined. -0-
