St. Petersburg, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) — The artistic performance "Happy Spring Festival – The Charm of Sichuan Province" was held in St. Petersburg on Saturday as part of the 12th citywide festival "Chinese New Year – Happy Spring Festival."
In his address, Luo Zhanhui, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in St. Petersburg, noted that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Chinese-Russian partnership and strategic cooperation, the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation, and the beginning of the cross-border "Year of Education." "We are ready to take advantage of these important milestones to work with our Russian friends to elevate cooperation with China in our consular district, including St. Petersburg, to a whole new level," he said.
Speaking at the event, Nizami Mamishev, Deputy Chairman of the St. Petersburg Committee for External Relations, said that the celebration of Chinese New Year in St. Petersburg has already become an iconic symbol of Russian-Chinese friendship. In 2026, the 12th citywide festival "Chinese New Year – A Happy Spring Festival" will include more than 110 events.
The event program included dance and acrobatic performances, a Chinese Wushu performance, and a Sichuan opera with mask changes. The remarkable performances by artists from Sichuan Province earned thunderous applause from the audience.
