BEIJING, February 15 (Xinhua) — More than 285 million interregional passenger trips are expected in China on Sunday, the first day of the nine-day Spring Festival holiday, the Ministry of Transport reported.
The agency noted that this figure is 10.5 percent higher than the figure for the same period last year.
Road passenger traffic is estimated to increase by 10.8 percent year-on-year on Sunday, reaching 268.75 million passenger trips, while rail and civil aviation passenger traffic is expected to grow by 4.3 percent and 6.4 percent, respectively. Water passenger trips on the first day of the holiday are also projected to increase by 28.1 percent year-on-year.
This year, the Spring Festival falls on February 17. The official holiday lasts nine days, but the Chunyun period—the season of mass internal migration of the Chinese population before, during, and after the Spring Festival—began on February 2 and will continue until March 13. –0–
