Munich, Germany, February 14, Xinhua — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Saturday that history has developed in a tortuous way and that relations between China and the United States have a bright future.
Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the statement while answering questions about Sino-US relations after speaking at the "China in the World" session at the Munich Security Conference.
The Chinese diplomat noted that how China and the United States, the world's two largest powers, build relations with each other affects the fundamental direction of the international situation.
He said China has always viewed and approached its relations with the United States from a historical perspective and with a high sense of responsibility to the people and the world.
Wang Yi emphasized that Chinese President Xi Jinping summarized the experience and lessons of decades of China-US relations and solemnly proposed that China and the US respect each other, coexist peacefully, strive for mutually beneficial cooperation, and jointly find the right path for interaction between the two great powers on this planet through dialogue and consultation.
The Chinese Foreign Minister stated that China will continue to pursue this general course, as it serves the interests of the peoples of both countries and the common interests of the international community. However, he also emphasized that its implementation depends on the position of the United States.
He noted that it is gratifying to see that US President Donald Trump has great respect for Xi Jinping and the Chinese people. Trump clearly stated that China and the United States can work together to address major global challenges, and that the two leaders can advance Sino-American relations.
