BEIJING, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) — China's State Council has approved the upgrade of the Xiong'an High-Tech Development Zone to a national-level high-tech development zone, according to a statement released Friday.

The statement also noted that the modernized zone, as part of the Xiong'an New Area in Hebei Province, North China, should promote deeper integration of scientific and technological innovation with industrial innovation and attract high-quality innovation resources from home and abroad.

This zone is also designed to implement cooperation in the field of research and development (R&D) on important scientific and technological projects, accelerate the development of key technologies in priority areas and promote the effective transformation and application of scientific and technological achievements.

The statement also called for strengthening and developing leading industries, formulating forward-looking plans for developing emerging sectors, deepening system and mechanism reform, and promoting high-level cooperation in opening up.

In April 2017, China decided to establish the Xiong'an New Area as part of its strategy to promote the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. -0-
