Tehran, February 14 (Xinhua) — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Friday criticized the European Union's "incorrect approaches" to Tehran, in particular its designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization and its "inappropriate interference" in the country's internal affairs. He made this statement during a telephone conversation with his Cypriot counterpart, Constantinos Kombos, whose country currently holds the EU Presidency.
According to a statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry, A. Araghchi also criticized the EU's "incorrect" position regarding events in West Asia, calling on the European Union to reconsider its "unconstructive" approaches to Tehran and the region as a whole.
The parties exchanged views on the resumption of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States. K. Kombos welcomed their resumption, emphasizing the need to continue negotiations and reduce tensions.
The telephone conversation took place amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington and a buildup of US military power in the region. The first round of indirect Iranian-American talks took place on February 6 in Muscat, Oman.
