Moscow, February 13 (Xinhua) — The Russian Investigative Committee (IC) has charged four defendants with terrorism in the assassination attempt on Defense Ministry Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev. This was announced on Friday by IC spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko.

"Considering the overall context of the crime and the circumstances, the investigation is charging Lyubomir Korba, Viktor Vasin, and Pavel Vasin with committing a terrorist act. Zinaida Serebritskaya will be charged in absentia," TASS quoted her as saying.

As S. Petrenko noted, during the investigation, the information obtained by the investigators was thoroughly reviewed and compared. This included evidence from the crime scene inspection and the defendants' testimony regarding the meticulous preparation of the crime on behalf of the Security Service of Ukraine. She stated that the motive for the assassination attempt was "intimidation of the population with the aim of destabilizing the activities of the authorities."

The official representative of the Russian Investigative Committee added that investigative actions and operational-search measures aimed at identifying and locating the organizers of the crime are currently ongoing.
