Russian and international rating agencies confirm Rosneft's leadership in sustainable development

The international agency WBA (World Benchmarking Alliance) recognized Rosneft as the best Russian oil and gas company in four ratings dedicated to a just energy transition, social initiatives, and gender equality as part of an assessment of the activities of 2,000 of the world's largest companies.

The WBA was founded in 2018 with UN support to evaluate corporate contributions to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals and regularly recognizes the Company's successes. In 2023, following the biennial oil and gas industry assessment, Rosneft was recognized as the best Russian oil and gas company and ranked among the top 10 global oil and gas companies based on a number of sustainability indicators.

The largest international investment and consulting agency, ISS (Institutional Shareholder Services), also highly praised Rosneft's activities in the field of environmental protection, including the Company in the group of leaders in the environmental rating.

For the third year in a row, Russia's largest non-credit rating agency, RAEX, has assigned Rosneft an "AA" ESG rating, confirming the Company's high level of environmental, social, and governance performance. In this new rating, Rosneft is the only oil and gas company with a rating of this level for the 2024 reporting period. Furthermore, for the third year in a row, the quality of corporate governance has also been rated at the highest level—with a "AAA" rating.

Furthermore, for the second year in a row, the corporate development agency "Yes-Strategy" awarded Rosneft, the only Russian oil and gas company, the highest level rating of "Leader of Corporate ESG Practice in the Russian Federation."

Rosneft's strategy is based on building a business that meets the highest industrial safety and environmental protection standards. Since 2007, the company has published an annual Sustainability Report in accordance with the international standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), and since 2018, it has annually reaffirmed its commitment to the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Environmental responsibility is a key priority for Rosneft. The company is consistently increasing its green investment: by the end of 2024, it will reach 74 billion rubles, and from 2022 to 2024, it will reach almost 200 billion rubles. These investments are being used for pipeline reliability improvement programs, construction of associated petroleum gas utilization infrastructure, emission reduction, and other projects.

Thanks to the successful implementation of the energy conservation program in the period 2022-2024, the actual savings of fuel and energy resources by Rosneft enterprises exceeded 1 million tons of equivalent fuel, while the reduction in absolute greenhouse gas emissions reached 3 million tons of CO2-eq.

Rosneft applies circular economy principles to its water management. As a result, the share of recycled and consistently reused water has consistently exceeded 90% for nine years.

Rosneft places significant emphasis on reforestation, thereby promoting the sustainable development of ecosystems and preserving biodiversity. Between 2022 and 2024, Rosneft's subsidiaries planted nearly 28 million seedlings and trees of various species in the regions where they operate. Furthermore, Rosneft enterprises released approximately 127 million juvenile fish into water bodies.

As part of its collaboration with the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources, Rosneft is implementing a number of activities under the federal project "Conservation of Biodiversity and Development of Ecotourism," including research in the Arctic zone related to the study of polar bears and their habitat, an assessment of the status of the wild reindeer population, and valuable species of bioresources in the Yenisei River estuary basin.
