Beijing, February 13 (Xinhua) — China has noted that the parliamentary elections in Bangladesh were held calmly and successfully, and congratulates the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on its victory, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said in Beijing on Friday.
The official spokesperson made the statement while commenting on the parliamentary elections for the 13th National Assembly (the unicameral parliament) of Bangladesh held on Thursday. Preliminary results show that the PNB won 209 of the 297 directly elected seats, marking the party's victory in the general election.
As a traditional friend and neighbor of Bangladesh, China supports Bangladesh in advancing its domestic political agenda and is willing to work with Bangladesh to develop traditional friendship, deepen high-quality cooperation within the Belt and Road Initiative and practical cooperation in various fields, and promote the continuous development of the China-Bangladesh comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.
