Jerusalem, February 13 (Xinhua) — Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Chief of General Staff Eyal Zamir said on Friday that Israel remains committed to the complete demilitarization of the Gaza Strip and the disarmament of Hamas, according to a statement released by the IDF.

“We are not abandoning the goal of the war – the complete demilitarization of the Gaza Strip and the disarmament of Hamas,” E. Zamir noted during a visit to the city of Rafah, located in the southern part of the Palestinian enclave.

Accompanied by senior commanders, he ordered forces to intensify clearing operations in the area, focusing on destroying the tunnel network.

The Chief of the General Staff noted that troops are deployed along the "yellow line," which demarcates the territories controlled by Israel under the ceasefire, and are systematically clearing out "terrorist" infrastructure while simultaneously controlling access to the enclave.

Earlier on Friday, the IDF announced in a statement that its troops in northern Gaza encountered two militants entering a building east of the Yellow Line. The Israeli Air Force subsequently struck the building, and the hit was confirmed.
