BEIJING, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping called for strengthening a strategic, forward-looking and systematic approach to basic research and supporting scientific researchers in creating more original innovations.
Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), made the remarks in a recent instruction for the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NNSC).
Noting the positive role of the SFNK in promoting fundamental research and training innovative personnel over the past 40 years, Xi Jinping called on the foundation to seize the opportunities offered by the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, and to deepen the reform of science funding to further improve the funding system and enhance funding efficiency.
He called on the GFENC to promote the creation of a favorable scientific research ecosystem and the expansion of international cooperation, thereby supporting scientific researchers in creating more original innovations, and making greater contributions to achieving a high level of scientific and technological self-sufficiency and self-improvement and building a strong scientific and technological power.
