Brussels, February 12 (Xinhua) — The United States seeks to transform the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) into an alliance based on partnership, not dependence. US Under Secretary of Defense for Political Affairs Elbridge Colby announced this on Thursday ahead of a meeting of NATO defense ministers.
He said the US was in favour of Europe taking the lead in NATO's conventional defence, adding that this would truly mean a return to a serious alliance focused on defence and deterrence.
“Now is the time to act together, to be pragmatic, to focus on ‘flexible realism’ based on the National Security Strategy and the National Defense Strategy of the United States,” noted E. Colby. –0–
