BEIJING, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) — China will impose countervailing measures on dairy products imported from the European Union for a period of five years starting Friday, Feb. 13, the Ministry of Commerce said Thursday.

According to the final decision announced by the agency following the anti-subsidy investigation, the duty rates for specific companies range from 7.4 percent to 11.7 percent.

At the request of the domestic industry, the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China on August 21, 2024, launched an anti-subsidy investigation into the import of dairy products originating in the EU.

The investigation was conducted in strict accordance with Chinese laws and regulations, as well as relevant World Trade Organization rules, and in compliance with the principles of fairness, impartiality, openness, and transparency, the ministry emphasized, adding that the investigation heard the parties involved and ensured the protection of the rights of all parties.

The agency noted that, according to the final report, the fact of subsidizing the import of dairy products originating in the EU was confirmed, and this state of affairs causes significant damage to the relevant domestic industry, while a causal relationship between the subsidies and the damage was also established. -0-
