Dhaka, February 12 (Xinhua) — Parliamentary elections began in Bangladesh on Thursday morning. More than 127 million registered voters are expected to vote.

Voting began at 7:30 a.m. local time at more than 42,000 polling stations and will end at 4:30 p.m. local time.

Long queues formed outside polling stations in some parts of Dhaka on Wednesday evening ahead of voting.

"I'm voting for the first time and I'm very excited," Miraz Ahmed, a member of Generation Z, told Xinhua on Wednesday evening. "I'll get a voter number from this information desk so I can skip the line and go straight to the polling station tomorrow morning," he said.

According to the electoral commission, a total of 2,028 candidates are vying for 299 of the 300 seats. The election for the final seat will be held later due to the death of one of the candidates.
