BEIJING, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) — General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Xi Jinping stressed the importance of caring for the elderly and children during an inspection tour of Beijing on Tuesday ahead of the Spring Festival (Chinese Lunar New Year).
After visiting a senior citizen's residential complex in Xicheng District, Xi Jinping noted that the CPC Central Committee pays special attention to both senior citizens and the younger generation.
The Chinese leader pointed out that the elderly are a national asset, and the steady increase in life expectancy clearly reflects the advantages of the socialist system.
“Caring for and supporting older people is a shared responsibility of society as a whole,” he stressed.
Xi Jinping also noted that children are the country's future. He said every effort must be made to ensure their healthy growth and comprehensive development.
