Tehran, February 10 (Xinhua) — Iran's Foreign Ministry on Tuesday denied reports that indirect talks between Tehran and Washington would take place outside Oman, clarifying that Muscat has always been the agreed-upon venue, Iran's official news agency IRNA reported.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei told reporters at a briefing that Iran welcomes diplomatic efforts by regional and neighboring countries that have offered assistance in reducing tensions and support for dialogue.
He noted that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had been in contact with his counterparts from regional countries, as well as with other parties interested in regional peace and security. These contacts, according to Baghaei, took place "at the highest levels," including with the Iranian president and foreign minister, and were aimed at defusing tensions and facilitating the diplomatic process.
At the same time, the official representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry emphasized that there were never any plans to hold negotiations anywhere except Oman. –0–
