London, February 10 (Xinhua) — Britain condemned the Israeli Security Council's decision to expand its control over the West Bank. The British Foreign Office issued a statement to that effect on Monday.

“The significant changes to land, law enforcement and administrative powers proposed in the West Bank will harm efforts to promote peace and stability,” the ministry said in a statement.

"The UK has made it clear: any unilateral attempts to change the geographic or demographic composition of Palestine are completely unacceptable and contrary to international law. We call on Israel to immediately reverse these decisions," the statement reads.

“A two-state solution remains the only viable path to lasting peace, in which a secure and safe Israel coexists with a viable and sovereign Palestine,” the document adds.

Israel's Security Cabinet on Sunday approved a decision to strengthen Israeli control over the occupied West Bank and expand Jewish settlements there. This decision drew condemnation from several Arab and Islamic countries, as well as EU countries.
