Almaty, February 9 /Xinhua/ — By the end of 2025, the volume of transit cargo through Kazakhstan increased by 6.6 percent to 36.9 million tons, the country's prime minister's press service reported on Monday.

By comparison, the 2024 figure was 34.6 million tons. According to the press service, the increase in transit is due to the integrated development of road, rail, air, and water transport, as well as consistent efforts to expand international cooperation in logistics.

According to official data, the volume of freight transported by rail last year amounted to 320 million tonnes, an increase of 5.5 percent year-on-year. Sea transport carried 8 million tonnes of freight, a 7 percent increase over the 2024 target.

Container traffic through seaports increased by 29 percent, with 90,637 TEU (twenty-foot container equivalent units) of various cargo handled. Along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, growth was 36 percent.
