HONG KONG, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) — The High Court of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Monday morning sentenced Li Zhiying, the ringleader of anti-China riots in the region, to 20 years in prison.

In December 2025, the High Court of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region found him guilty of two charges of conspiring to collaborate with foreign forces and one charge of conspiring to publish inflammatory material. The sentencing hearing for Lee Zhi-ying began on January 12 and concluded on January 13.

The defendants in the case are Li Zhiying, as well as Apple Daily Limited, Apple Daily Printing Limited, and Apple Daily Internet Limited, charged with conspiracy to publish inflammatory materials and colluding with external forces. Li Zhiying was also separately charged with colluding with external forces.

The trial formally commenced on 18 December 2023 and was presided over by three judges appointed under the Act on Safeguarding National Security in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. -0-
