Washington, February 8 (Xinhua) — The White House plans to hold a meeting of the leaders of the Gaza Peace Council on February 19, the American news outlet Axios reported on Saturday.

"This will be the first meeting of the 'Peace Council' and a conference to raise funds for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip," the publication quotes an anonymous American official as saying.

According to the portal, the meeting is planned to be held at the US Institute of Peace. The Donald Trump administration began contacting dozens of countries on Friday to invite their leaders.

Preparations for the summit are still in the early stages and plans could still change, Axios reported, adding that the White House declined to comment.

On January 22, US President Donald Trump officially announced the creation of the so-called "Peace Council" at a charter signing ceremony during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Several major world powers and traditional US allies declined to join the council.
