St. Petersburg, February 6 /Xinhua/ — An outbreak of norovirus infection has been detected at School No. 39 in the Nevsky District of St. Petersburg, the press service of the Interregional Office of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region of the Russian Federation reported on Friday.

Thirty-seven cases of acute intestinal infection have been registered among school students and staff, as well as a food service worker. Norovirus infection has been detected in those infected and their contacts. Six people remain hospitalized.

Earlier, the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for St. Petersburg reported that investigators were investigating reports of child poisoning. At the time, it was reported that more than 25 children felt ill after lunch in the school cafeteria, and several were hospitalized with symptoms of poisoning.
