UN, February 6 /Xinhua/ — UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomes the resumption of talks between Iran and the United States, his spokesman said on Friday.

The Secretary-General expressed hope that the talks would help reduce regional tensions and prevent a wider crisis, the official said in a note to correspondents.

It adds that the Secretary-General consistently advocates for de-escalation and peaceful resolution of disputes in accordance with the UN Charter. All existing disagreements can and should be resolved through peaceful dialogue, the document emphasizes.
