NEW YORK, February 5 (Xinhua) — Two people were killed when a police helicopter crashed at the scene of a shootout in Flagstaff, Arizona, on Wednesday evening, local authorities said Thursday.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety confirmed in a press release that the helicopter was deployed to provide tactical air support to an active shooter incident near Flagstaff. The pilot and the police officer on board were killed in the crash.
The Bell 407 helicopter crashed near Flagstaff around 10:15 p.m. local time (1:15 p.m. GMT Thursday) and caught fire, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement.
The FAA added that it would support the National Transportation Safety Board's investigation into the crash.
