BEIJING, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) — Xi Jinping responded on Thursday to Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) General Secretary and Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith, designating 2026 as the China-Laos Friendship Year.
In the letter, Xi Jinping also supported Thongloun Sisoulith, announcing the launch of a series of events dedicated to the year of friendship.
The Chinese President noted that China and Laos have been good neighbors and friends for many generations, as well as good comrades and partners who share ideals and have a common future.
Xi Jinping added that in recent years, the two sides have strived for development based on mutual benefit, responded to challenges with unity and cooperation, and firmly supported each other on issues affecting their core interests, bringing tangible benefits to the peoples of the two countries.
The Chinese leader recalled his numerous meetings with Thongloun Sisoulith, during which they reached an important consensus on deepening the construction of a China-Laos community with a shared future and developed a plan for developing relations between the two parties and the two countries under the new circumstances.
Noting that with the arrival of the New Year, everything is renewed, Xi Jinping emphasized that Chinese-Lao relations are at their best in history and have broad development prospects.
China consistently views relations with Laos from a strategic perspective and a long-term perspective, he stated. China is willing to use the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the Friendship Year as an opportunity to continue traditional friendship, deepen practical cooperation, strengthen strategic coordination, and bring the construction of a China-Laos community with a shared future to the forefront of interstate relations, making greater contributions to peace, stability, development, and prosperity in the region, Xi Jinping added.
Thongloun Sisoulith, in his New Year greetings to the Chinese leader, emphasized that, thanks to Xi Jinping's care and leadership, the traditional friendship between Laos and China has been strengthened, political mutual trust has deepened, and comprehensive strategic cooperation has yielded rich results.
