KUNMING, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) — The China-Laos 500kV cross-border power transmission line was physically connected on Thursday, marking the completion of the line's entire length and a major step forward in the project.

This is another important project in the framework of China-Laos bilateral cooperation following the construction and operation of the China-Laos railway.

The total length of the China-Laos 500 kV transmission line is 177.5 kilometers, including 145 kilometers on Chinese territory and 32.5 kilometers on Laotian territory. The Chinese and Laotian portions of the infrastructure project are being financed and built by China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd. and Electricite du Laos Transmission Company Limited, respectively.

Once operational, the project will be capable of bidirectional transmission of 1.5 million kW of electricity, which will enable the supply of approximately 3 billion kWh of clean electricity per year.

This project will expand infrastructure connectivity between China and Laos, from transportation to energy. It is also intended to promote energy mix optimization and green development.
