BEIJING, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) — China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a reception in Beijing on Thursday to celebrate the 2026 New Year.

The event was attended by approximately 500 people, including members of the diplomatic corps from various countries, representatives of international organizations in China and government agencies of the People's Republic of China.

Speaking at the reception, Wang Yi, a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese Foreign Minister, recalled that 2025 marked the 80th anniversary of the founding of the UN. He stated that last year, despite headwinds and unsettled currents in international relations, Chinese diplomacy consistently maintained the right path.

In particular, as the head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry pointed out, the Global Governance Initiative put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping illuminated the way forward for the world at an important moment in the evolution of the world order.

Regardless of changes in the international situation, China's stance on upholding international fairness and justice and its commitment to building a community with a shared future for mankind have remained unwavering, Wang Yi emphasized.

The Chinese diplomat noted that the global situation is becoming even more unstable and turbulent in the coming year, with peace and development facing serious challenges. He stated that China stands ready to join all progressive forces on the planet in thinking about the future of humanity, caring for the well-being of people, and making new contributions to building a more beautiful future.

Wang Yi called for jointly upholding peace and the rule of law, promoting openness and development, overcoming crises and challenges, and deepening mutual understanding and friendship.

The Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in China, Cameroon's Ambassador to China, Martin Mpana, on behalf of the diplomatic corps, conveyed best wishes to the Chinese people on the occasion of the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year.

He praised China's foreign policy achievements in 2025, particularly the Global Governance Initiative, noting that it is of great significance to world peace and development.

M. Mpana added that countries around the world are ready to work with China to strengthen mutual understanding, deepen friendship, and promote even greater success in their cooperation with the PRC, and are ready to jointly uphold international justice and promote common prosperity. –0–
