Shenzhen, February 4 (Xinhua) — China has launched the first-ever road shipment of bonded cargo from the economically prosperous Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (in southern China) to Russia under the TIR international transport system. Compared to rail and air freight, this new logistics model offers significant advantages in terms of time efficiency and transportation costs.

The shipment concerns a consignment of headphones and earphones that was recently shipped by truck from the Qianhai Bonded Warehouse in Shenzhen, a major metropolitan area in the region. It is expected to arrive in Moscow within 10 days. This logistics operation marks the first time the Qianhai Bonded Warehouse has implemented the "TIR Bonded Warehouse Services" format.

TIR transport significantly simplifies the transportation of goods between countries. Under this system, cargo is sealed at the starting point of the route and inspected only upon arrival at the destination. At intermediate border crossings, checkpoint officers merely verify the TIR carnet data and the customs seal for the vehicle. This not only helps reduce transit time but also minimizes the risk of damage to sensitive goods such as headphones, explained Zhang Lingjie, Deputy General Director of the Qianhai Bonded Zone Development and Operation Company.

He noted that, according to practical calculations, TIR transport will reduce travel time by 75 percent compared to traditional rail transport, and reduce transportation costs by 75 percent compared to air transport.

"The launch of TIR transport is crucial for our company in expanding its position in the Central Asian and European markets, as well as increasing its overall market competitiveness," the Deputy General Director is convinced.

Let us recall that China joined the TIR Convention in July 2016. -0-
