BEIJING, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) — Air China is expected to operate at least 70,000 flights during this year's Chunyun period, a special season for the Chinese transport system to accommodate mass migration before, during, and after the Spring Festival (Chunjie, the traditional Chinese Lunar New Year), which runs from February 2 to March 13 in 2026. The projected figure is 10.1 percent higher than last year's figure.

The airline said the highest flight frequency is expected on key routes between major urban agglomerations, including the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Yangtze River Delta, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Chengdu-Chongqing region.

The airline will also increase capacity on routes to Northeast China by 15 percent compared to the Chunyun 2025 period, and flights on popular routes such as Sanya will be operated exclusively by wide-body aircraft.

Nine domestically developed C919 aircraft are planned to be used on flights from Beijing to Hangzhou, Chengdu, Wuhan, Xi'an, and other cities.

Air China also plans to increase the number of international flights, primarily to destinations such as Sydney, Auckland, Singapore, Seoul and Bangkok.
