TEHRAN, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Tuesday that he has instructed the country's Foreign Ministry to conduct "fair and equal negotiations" with the United States.
He made the statement in a post on the social media site X amid tensions between Tehran and Washington over the buildup of US military presence near Iran.
“I have instructed the Minister of Foreign Affairs /Abbas Araghchi/ to conduct fair and equal negotiations, in the presence of suitable conditions – without threats and unreasonable expectations – guided by the principles of dignity, prudence and expediency,” M. Pezeshkian said.
He noted that the decision was made in response to requests from "friendly governments in the region" to respond to US President Donald Trump's proposal for negotiations. However, M. Pezeschkian emphasized that these negotiations "will be conducted within the framework of our national interests."
