BEIJING, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) — China's shipbuilding industry maintained its leadership in the international market for the 16th consecutive year in three key indicators in 2025, according to data released Sunday by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

According to the agency's statistics, during the specified period, China completed construction of ships with a total tonnage of 53.69 million deadweight tons, which is 11.4 percent more than in the previous year and amounted to 56.1 percent of the global total.

Meanwhile, last year, the volume of new orders in the country's shipbuilding industry reached 107.82 million deadweight tons, which accounts for 69 percent of all new orders worldwide.

As of the end of December 2025, the volume of orders in this sector in the country amounted to 274.42 million dwt, an increase of 31.5 percent compared to the previous year. This figure accounted for 66.8 percent of the total global market share. -0-
