Wellington, January 30 (Xinhua) — New Zealand will not join the "Peace Council" initiated by US President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Christopher Lacson announced on Friday.
The government considered the proposal and decided that it would not accept the invitation to join the council in its “current form,” he said.
New Zealand's Foreign Minister, Winston Peters, said on social media that, as a leading founder and long-standing supporter of the UN, New Zealand believes it is important that the council's work complements and is consistent with the UN Charter.
D. Trump officially announced the creation of the “Peace Council” on January 22 during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. –0–
