Minsk, January 29 (Xinhua) – China firmly protects its national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Chinese Ambassador to Belarus Zhang Wenchuan stated this Thursday at a reception for journalists to mark the upcoming Spring Festival (Chinese New Year, the traditional Chinese Lunar New Year).
As he pointed out, decisive and effective countermeasures were taken in response to provocations by forces advocating for so-called “Taiwan independence” and large-scale supplies of American weapons to Taiwan.
"Many countries around the world, including Belarus, have publicly expressed support for the Chinese government's efforts to protect national unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, for which China expresses gratitude. Taiwan's return to the bosom of the motherland is an important element in the outcome of World War II and the post-war international order," Zhang Wenchuan noted.
He emphasized that the one-China principle serves as the basic norm of international relations and that the Taiwan issue is at the very center of China's core interests.
"Looking to the future, China will continue to follow the path of peaceful development, deepen high-level opening-up, support like-minded countries such as Belarus and move hand in hand with them along the path of modernization, strengthen the authority and role of the UN, firmly adhere to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind," the Chinese Ambassador to Belarus added.
