UNITED NATIONS, January 30 (Xinhua) — UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday called for dialogue on the Iranian nuclear issue to avoid a catastrophic crisis.
“We believe it is important that there be a dialogue that allows us to reach an agreement on, in particular, the nuclear issue, and so that we can avoid a crisis that could have devastating consequences in the region,” he said at a press conference marking the beginning of the year.
"I believe it is absolutely essential for dialogue to prevail. I urge dialogue to benefit from the mediation proposals that have been made," said A. Guterres.
“We don’t want to see nuclear weapons, and I believe the Iranians are telling us that they don’t want to have them either, so if that’s the case, then all the conditions are there for serious negotiations, and I call on the parties to engage in serious negotiations to avoid a confrontation that would be a tragedy,” he emphasized. –0–
