Istanbul, January 30 (Xinhua) — An explosion occurred Thursday at an oil refinery operated by Turkish corporation Tupras in the northwestern province of Kocaeli. Authorities dispatched several emergency services to the scene, local media reported.
Tupras stated that the incident occurred near a refinery tank in Izmit at around 9:30 PM local time. Safety specialists quickly brought the situation under control. No employees were injured, and operations are continuing normally, the company emphasized.
Footage from Halk TV shows flames and thick black smoke rising from the structure. Journalists reported that numerous ambulances and emergency crews were dispatched to the scene. Workers were evacuated for safety reasons.
